Parent Update November 18,2020
Posted on 11/19/2020

You may have seen news reports that the Ontario government was reviewing whether to extend the winter break. Today, the Education Minister confirmed that “an extended winter holiday is not necessary at this time.” OCDSB schools will have the last day of classes on December 18th and will re-open to students on January 4th, 2021.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has recently been declining in Ottawa, and the continuation of a downward trend relies on our collective commitment to following health guidelines. So far, there have been a limited number of COVID-19 cases and only a few partial outbreaks in our schools.

This is thanks to efforts of parents/guardians to complete the daily self-assessment and keep children home who are displaying possible symptoms.

We are also proud to see how responsible students of all ages have been to follow the health guidelines in place. Let's all continue to do our part to keep these numbers low and keep our community safe.

Elementary Parent-Teacher Interviews

Elementary Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place after school on Thursday November 26th this year. Teachers will conduct interviews by phone or Google Meet. Watch for and email with more information from your school to schedule an interview.

Parent-teacher interviews are short face-to-face sessions where parents/guardians can meet with their child's teacher to find out how your child is performing academically, as well as socially-emotionally. Interviews provide parents/guardians with an opportunity to identify additional ways to support their child effectively.

Some tips to help parents prepare:

  • Spend some time in advance thinking about what you want to know about your child's performance;
  • Write down your questions
  • Talk to your child before the interview and find out what he or she enjoys most about school and if your child has any worries or concerns to address with the teacher.

Learning is a partnership and we encourage you to continue to be involved in your child’s education.

Report Cards

Report Cards will be available to parents through the secure online Report Card Portal on November 20th for elementary students and November 25th for secondary students. Parents must register in order to access the report cards. Registration is a simple process and you can find details on the OCDSB Report Card Portal webpage. In case you are facing any difficulties with the registration process or accessing report cards once they are available, please contact your school.
