October 29, 2021
Dear Families,
What an amazing week! We said goodbye to October with our school’s October virtual assembly on Thursday. Each classroom had a chance to share their class accomplishment for the month of October. Some students took this opportunity to show some of their amazing work. To finish off the week, individual classes enjoyed some Halloween fun.

School Culture - We are a Community that Shows Respect
Every monthly assembly, we will be exploring one of the core values we encourage staff and students to show every day in school. Our core values are: respect, caring, inclusiveness, integrity, responsibility, and courage. For the next month, we will be focusing on respect. Activities have been shared with educators to get their students thinking about what respect means, how to show ourselves respect, and how to respect others. We would love it if families took the opportunity to explore this with their students at home. Please take a look at this week’s suggestions of discussions and activities to do at home:

Treaty Recognition Week
November 1st to 7th is Treaty Recognition Week. Canada was created through Treaties between the Crown and First Nations. Classes will be learning about the importance of Treaty and Treaty relationships. Importance of Treaty Education
Accessing Report Cards & What is the Process:
In preparation for families to be able to receive their student report cards by Secure Document Delivery (SDD) through School Messenger, you may wish to send communication home about where to find the student OEN numbers on previous report cards. This OEN number is required in order to open the report card. When entering the OEN, please include the hyphens (dashes). The format should be XXX-XXX-XXX.
Student Agendas
Student agendas will be going home next week. If possible, we are asking families to donate $5.00 per family. As our agendas respect many cultural and religious observances on our calendar, there may be cultural observances that are not listed. At BCPS we do honour all observances during announcements and educators will add the cultural days on an ongoing basis.
Discussion with Indigenous Communities
The District invites First Nations, Métis, and Inuit family and community members to join a virtual discussion on November 1, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm to share your ideas to improve the draft Human Rights Policy which references Indigenous rights. The discussion will be facilitated by Jody Alexander, who leads the Indigenous Education and Learning team, together with Carolyn Tanner, OCDSB Human Rights and Equity Advisor. Please register here, and you can learn more about the Human Rights Policy Consultation on the OCDSB’s website
PD Day November 12th and Parent Teacher Interviews:
The PA Day on November 12th, 2021 has been designated to accommodate family/teacher interviews. Educators will be sending out information in the coming weeks to set up an interview to discuss your child’s progress. Interviews will take place on either the evening of Wednesday, November 10th or the morning of Friday, November 12th. All interviews will be conducted virtually using Google Meet.
