Phase 2 Message to Community

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We hope you are well.  We are thinking about you and your children.  We hope you are well.  We hope you are managing.  Thanks to those who have asked questions or asked for assistance.  It’s our job AND our privilege to support you.  Please contact Ms. Lad or I if you are struggling.  Please check the BCPS Website and follow us on Twitter.  We don’t want to overwhelm you and so will pass on crucial info ASAP.  I am writing to you today to clarify the next steps for Learning at Home - Phase 2 which begins on Monday, April 6.

Key Goals:

  • Teachers
    • work together to create learning opportunities for students
    • communicate with parents and students to explain the learning and share learning activities online

Planning for learning in online environment

  • Teachers
    • share information about how to use the online learning resources and communication plans with families
    • share the norms for on-line learning environment with students - because Integrity and Empathy are STILL at the core of all we do
    • assign online learning opportunities
    • provide students with feedback on completed work to help them learn and grow
    • access learning supports/training as needed to make the best use of online learning

Technology

  • We know that some of you are concerned about connecting to the Internet with a useful device
    • phone is probably not sufficient
    • let your teacher know if you have no internet and/or need a device
    • the Board is working with Ottawa Public Health to create a safe and fair way to distribute Chromebooks to the community
    • this will happen as quickly as possible
    • we have a list of students who need Chromebooks and help to connect
    • we will be in touch with a plan soon… we’ve got this!

We are in this together.  We will get through this together.  Please check in on neighbours.  Let us know if you see a family in difficulty.  Take good care and be sure to ask for help before you really need it!

Thanks

Sadhana & Dave
